What happens in Harakeke?
We spend hui time together in the mornings which is a lovely time to share what the children have been up to and also to share what is going on for the day. The rest of the morning is spent on literacy and numeracy. The afternoon programme includes a shared story. This is a favourite time for all as we share a variety of novels and the children love to read along with us. We then work on our inquiries in health, science, social science, technology and the arts as well as PE lessons. Our cultural perspective is included throughout the day in the from of greetings, waiata, karakia and instructions.
To keep you all informed we use Seesaw. This is used to relay school and class information, and also as a learning record for your child. It is very important that you sign up to this so that you are kept well informed...ad the children love to receive feedback on their work.
All children in Harakeke are given a google account where they learn how to log on to a device, complete work in documents or slides, and then share this work with their teacher via Hapara. Please ask your child to share their learning with you. We also use Studyladder, and all children have a username and password. This is a free learning resource that allows children to practice their numeracy and literacy skills.
We love to have parental input and welcome you all into our learning space. Please pop in and say hi, and stay awhile if you are able.
If you need to contact us then pleae e-mail us on:
Seasaw is a new app which gives your child a safe space to document their learning and learn how to use technology. Each child gets their own journal and will add work to share what they're doing at school. When your child adds items, you'll be notified. Your child's journal is safe and secure. Your child's teacher will give you sign up instructions.
